Few people have the fortune and privilege to interact with the wonders of our underwater world, and diving is a sport that the whole family can enjoy together, even kids as young as 10 years old. The Open Water 20 Diver program may be your first journey into the amazing world of scuba diving, and you’re going to have the time of your life. To earn your Open Water 20 Diver certification, you need to read the manuals for each section and complete the quizzes. Once you have passed all the quizzes, you can proceed to the exam. It is important to select and contact a RAID Dive Centre and arrange for your practical in-water training. They will arrange your class and in-water sessions and help you with equipment advice or purchases. The quizzes and exam are “open book”. This means you are required to read the manuals and then if needed, research the manual to find the correct answers. Start Diving / Open Water 20 - RAID International Scuba Diving Course Prerequisites The minimum age for this course is 15 years old. Divers younger than this can participate in the RAID Junior Open Water Diver program. You will be required to a complete some mandatory paperwork which consists of a dive medical questionnaire, a liability release, and a safe diving practices form. If there are any potential medical issues, you will need to complete a medical form signed by a licensed physician prior to participating in any in-water sessions. Once you have registered with RAID, you can access all the required paperwork online in “Your Profile”. You must be able to swim as you will be required to swim a distance of 200 meters / 200 yards (no time limit) and tread water for 10 minutes. Core Structure Together with your instructor you will be guided through the following: A review of all your mandatory paperwork. Academic knowledge vital to this program, including a review of your quizzes and exam. Completion of the swim and tread. You will participate in several pool or confined water sessions and 4 open water dives to a maximum of 18 meters / 60 feet, with a minimum of two hours underwater. Certification The Open Water 20 certification entitles the holder to dive with a certified dive buddy to a maximum depth of 20 metres/66 feet in conditions similar or better than those experienced during training. The Junior Open Water certification entitles the holder to dive with a certified adult dive buddy of equal or higher certification to a maximum depth of 18 metres / 60 feet. The Cadet Open Water certification entitles the holder to dive with a certified adult dive buddy of equal or better certification to a maximum depth of 12 metres/40 feet.
