BSAC CONTINUED TRAINING

BSAC ADVANCED OCEAN DIVER.

If you are an already qualified BSAC Ocean Diver (or other agency equivalent) and would like to extend your diving range progressively, then Advanced Ocean Diver is for you.

An optional step between Ocean Diver and Sports Diver, Advanced Ocean Diver will enable you to dive up to 30m which opens up even more of our fabulous underwater environment to explore!

To enrol on the Advanced Ocean Diver, you must have successfully completed the BSAC Ocean Diver course. It is also open to those who have an equivalent certification from another recognised diver training agency and have completed Nitrox training. You must also be aged 14 or over to be able to progress to depths up to 30m.

Current BSAC Sports Diver trainees who have completed the necessary skills and theory modules and are aged 14 or over can also apply for their Advanced Ocean Diver qualification to dive to 30m..

BSAC SPORTS DIVER

Advancing your scuba diving qualifications to become a Sports Diver gives you the opportunity to perform longer, deeper dives with decompression stops, as well as learning rescue skills.

If you want to do more with your diving, the Sports Diver qualification gives you the freedom to explore. Being a Sports Diver allows most people to do all the diving they want in the UK and abroad.

If you already have some diving experience with an entry-level qualification and want to take your underwater adventures to the next level, Sports Diver is your next step in BSAC’s Diver Training Programme.

There are two routes to becoming a Sports Diver – either from Advanced ocean diver, or directly from Ocean diver.

You will broaden your experience in a variety of challenging open-water conditions and learn essential techniques to prepare you for diving to a maximum of 35 metres.

To become a Sports Diver, you must have successfully completed an Ocean Diver or Advanced Ocean Diver course (or have equivalent certification from another recognised training agency) and be aged 12 or older, but you need to be 14 or older to progress to depths greater than 20m post qualification.

BSAC DIVE LEADER

This is an important grade that is accredited to an international standard (ISO 24801-3 - Dive Leader) and is a mandatory prerequisite for progression to Open Water Instructor. Whether you have come from previous BSAC training or another agency, we are confident you will enjoy this next important step. This course builds on the foundation provided by your existing experience of leading dives and supporting the Dive Manager. It will teach you the important leadership knowledge and skills so that you are able to organise and manage dives for others. Your existing skills in leading dives will be extended to prepare you for leading inexperienced divers, which includes supervising trainees while they practice skills they have been taught by an instructor. You will also be taught how to lead experienced divers to further extend their personal diving experiences, such as during depth progression or in new conditions. The course will develop your expertise in dive planning and preparation. Not only will this allow you to extend your own diving, but you will also be able to support the management of diving for others at different sites. This includes locations where on-site rescue facilities are available. You will also be trained to plan diving so that the likelihood of an incident is minimised and, should something happen, you can manage a rescue in the most effective manner. These course notes can be downloaded and should be read in conjunction with the dive leader manual. It is also beneficial to review your previous BSAC training materials and publications that you have received.
