Joined Below The Surface in 2009 and has been working through her qualifications ever since.

She has become more than a student and now looks after the accounts, advertising, admin as well as dive mastering.

Sally says “My hero as a child was Jacques Cousteau and diving was a long held ambition. I love diving both in the colder waters of the UK and in warmer climes.

My favourite dive site has to be the Great Barrier Reef…..but I am still looking!  I found more than the love of diving with Below The Surface I also found a husband and best friend Bill Painter”

Bill has been diving for 45 years , since the age of 14. He was a military diver until he left in 1986 and has been teaching recreational diving ever since. He is both a BSAC and PADI Instructor and started Below The Surface in 1991.

He has enjoyed diving all over the world and has taught professionally all over the world.

Bill says on diving    “I work in the biggest fish tank in the world and I love it!  It’s the best office imaginable.  I still get such a kick when my students finish their course and I see the pleasure in their faces! You just cant beat it! I love to dive in the UK  in fact my favourite dive site is the summer isles in Scotland even the great barrier reef has to come second to it!”

He has dived all over the world but loves to dive in the cold waters of the uk.

He is great with the kids and adults, is a father of two and his day job is a medic, all of this making him a valuable team member.

Rik started diving with Below The Surface 15 years ago and quickly worked up to become an Assistant Instructor and has been an assistant instructor with Below The Surface for 12 years.

Rescue diver currently working towards Dive Master. Brian has been Bills right hand man for many years joining below the surface in 1996 and working up the qualifications whilst all the

time being there whenever we need help. He likes nothing better than to dive in the Scottish waters and St Abbs is a particular favourite. Always up for a dive trip, Brian is an invaluable member of the team always providing help and support in so many ways. He is fantastic with the kids, very enthusiastic and we are lucky to have him.

His wife Carole also helps out with amazing repair skills to kit …she can truly repair anything and is greatly appreciated.

Below The Surface is one of the oldest dive schools in Yorkshire, we started in 1991 to provide quality diving education we made the decision  to provide  a more personnel feel to learning to dive by only taking small groups rather than the large impersonal groups students can find themselves in.

We teach in schools and colleges , we teach in summer schools for foreign students from all over the world to give them a taste of diving,  as well as running our own school where we have club nights, children only sessions, parent and child sessions , party days, corporate events and obviously our teaching of all PADI courses.

We pride ourselves on being are a friendly school , most dive club nights end with a beer and a chat, with now lots of happy customers, we love our job and our support staff all work full time and give up their time for the love of diving and the joy of teaching.

He is very popular with the students and has been a great help for many years.

A very experienced diver he dives all over the world, loving the warmer waters of Malta and the Red Sea but loves the Farn Islands here in the uk .

Nigel says  “I love diving for the social side it brings and for the escape it provides from the stresses of everyday life and I really don’t know what I would do without it”

Can you say more?

Nigel has been diving with Below The Surface for years and completed his rescue diver and dive master course whilst providing valuable support to Bill both in the pool and on open water dives with the students.
